Many concussions resolve without any long term chronic symptoms. However, the symptoms of the concussion often get progressively worse over a period of days and even months after a head trauma. Mayo Clinic reports that concussions often get progressively worse over a 7-10 day period. Other reliable medical source say that concussion symptoms can get worse over a much longer period of time, even weeks, months or years.
The classic symptoms included in a post concussion syndrome include the following:
headaches,
blurred vision,
nausea,
light sensitivity,
noise sensitivity,
generalized confusion and disorientation,
balance difficulties,
sleep problems,
personality changes,
poor memory,
reduced concentration,
irritability,
reduced hearing,
tinnitus (ringing of the ears)
Postconcussion syndrome often follows after whiplash injury. Statistics show that nearly 60% of the victims of car accident injuries experience a concussion injury and develop postconcussion syndrome.
