Diffuse Brain Injury: a diffuse brain injury, also sometimes referenced as a diffuse axonal brain injury is one involving widespread damage to the white matter of the brain, which usually results from acceleration/deceleration types of injury A diffuse brain injury is one with widespread damage as distinguished from a focal brain injury where the damage is localized to a particular area of the brain. Diffuse brain injuries typically result from “whiplash forces” without a blow to the head. See definitions of ocal brain injury, “brain whiplash injury”, coup/contra coup brain injuries.
Focal Brain Injury: a focal brain injury is one of that damages a specific location or area within the brain, as opposed to a diffuse brain injury that occurs over a more widespread area.
