The Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center (DVBIC) is a network of 18 sites specializing in research, clinical affairs and education/outreach related to traumatic brain injuries and concussions. This center was established by Congress in 1992 to provide research, recovery support programs, education and training programs to help past, current and future concussion injury victims. Few people think about traumatic brain injury (TBI) unless they have one or know someone who has one. Knots and children symptoms of brain injuries in adults and children, the common causes of TBI, and how it may impact mental health.
A concussion – a mild form of brain injury – is the most common form of TBI in the military. Unfortunately, the signs and symptoms of a concussion can be the hardest to recognize among the types of TBI.
It is a myth to think that TBI in the military occurs most often in combat. It is a fact that the majority of TBI is treated by military physicians are diagnosed in noncombat settings.
