Hernia mesh is implanted in the human body during the surgical repair of an abdominal hernia. The mesh is intended to support the tissue surrounding the injured are herniated area.  

The hernia mesh is a screen-like device that is made either of animal tissue or synthetic material. Synthetic mesh is more frequently used in hernia repair surgeries.
