OVERLOOKED CONCUSSION INJURY-MINNESOTA TRUCKING ACCIDENT
MINNESOTA CONCUSSION INJURY LAWYERS at the SCHMIDT SALITA LAW TEAM report yet another case of a severely overlooked and unaccessed concussion injury.
ROBIN’S CASE; Robin was coming home from work in rush hour traffic. She stopped for traffic which was stopped ahead when she was violently rear-ended by a huge semi-truck which entered the passenger compartment of her car. The huge truck bumper stopped just a few feet behind her head.
When she “woke up”, she had a panic attack, thinking that her 8 year old and 6 year old might have been in the back seat. When she came to her senses, she realized that she had been coming home for work-so the kids wouldn’t have been in the car.
The next thing she recalls is that the semi-truck driver started the engine in an attempt to separate the two vehicles. It then backed up, jerking her car. The incident was very traumatic. Her severe concussion injury was later diagnosed in a Traumatic Brain Injury/Concussion specialty clinic. It was, however, grossly overlooked and ignored by the medical community.
1ST MEDICAL ASSESSMENT: Robin was taken to the nearest hospital Emergency Department where her concussion injury was overlooked.
2ND MEDICAL ASSESSMENT: Two days later, because of continuing post-concussion symptoms, Robin was taken the the nearest Urgent Care facility where her concussion symptoms were again overlooked.
3RD MEDICAL ASSESSMENT: 3 days later, because of continuing post-concussion symptoms, Robin saw her family practice doctor. Again, her concussion symptoms were ignored.
CHIROPRACTIC ASSESSMENT: 5 days later, Robin’s concussion symptoms were recognized and assessed by a Doctor of Chiropractic.
BOTTOM LINE: As the result of the assessment by the Doctor of Chiropractic who had training in concussion assessment, Robin was channeled into a high-quality Traumatic Brain Injury Clinic where she is currently received high quality care. She has been diagnosed with cognitive dysfunction (memory, comprehension, concentration dysfunction). She has been diagnosed with vision impairment and hearing loss. She has been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
