CONCUSSION INJURY LAWYER DOUGLAS SCHMIDT
Concussion Injury Lawyer Douglas Schmidt is on the cutting edge of personal injury law regarding concussion injuries.
Over 20 years ago, Schmidt served as President of District 6 Youth Hockey which the youth hockey organizations of innetonka, Eden Prairie, Edina, Bloomington, Burnsville, Apple Valley, and Eastview. Schmidt recognized the inherent danger of concussion injuries to youth hockey players.
Schmidt worked with Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine specialists to develop some of the very first “return-to-play” sideline evaluation programs.
Schmidt worked to establish “baselines” in which the athletes were evaluated before the season began so that their performance after a suspected concussion could be measured against their normal performance. Schmidt promoted the concept of “card files” which each athletes record of pre-season performance which could then be sueful in determining the extent of the athletes impairment after a suspected concussion.
SCHMIDT AS CONCUSSION INJURY LAWYER.
Schmidt continues his energetic work to advance the cause of concussion injury victims from car accidents. Schmidt says this.
“The victims of concussions from car accidents are at a very distinct disadvantage to concussion victims from sports events. Thankfully, our coaches and trainers are now required to have concussion training. That training is an advantage to the sports-related concussion victim. They now have sideline assessment tests that are valuable but never used by EMTs that arrive at the scene of a car accident. Unbelievable!!! Car accident victims should all get the same or better evaluation that athletes get!! But they don’t!!! The sideline assessments in sports is usually better than what car accident victims get in Emergency Rooms at hospitals. How sad!!!
