ANOKA MN INJURY LAWYERS-30 YEAR ANNIVERSARY, FIRST UNINSURED MOTORIST JURY TRIAL, ANOKA COUNTY

ANOKA MN INJURY LAWYERS celebrate the 30 year anniversary of the Anoka County jury trial in Storebo v. American Family Insurance.  The case is believed to be the first jury trial in Minnesota regarding a claim for benefits by an insurance policy holder against the Uninsured Motorist (UM) insurance coverage.

All Minnesota Automobile Insurance Companies had previously required that claims for UM insurance benefits be made through arbitration.  In the mid 1980’s, insurance companies writing policies in Minnesota decided that they didn’t like the arbitration clause.  They eliminated the arbitration provision from their No Fault Insurance policies and required policy holder to seek justice in state courts.

ANOKA INJURY LAWYER Douglas Schmidt of the Schmidt Salita Law Team was the plaintiff’s lawyer.  Schmidt has been recognized as perhaps the most experienced Minnesota lawyer in No Fault claims.  The case was tried to a jury.  The jury returned a verdict in favor of the policy holder in the amount of $48,000.00 plus court costs and interests.

Interestingly, Douglas Schmidt most recently won a very favorable verdict against American Family Insurance in a No Fault case in Hennepin County.  That case was tried to a jury that returned a verdict of $91,861.95.

The Schmidt Salita Law Team is very experienced in handling both No Fault and At Fault claims arising from Minnesota car accidents.
