RECORD- SCOTT COUNTY JURY VERDICT-$2.4 MILLION IN MEDICAL MALPRACTICE CASE.
Shakopee Injury Lawyer Douglas E. Schmidt successfully prosecuted a medical malpractice case to a jury in a hard fought trial in Shakopee Minnesota. The case was tried before Judge and Jury for a week. The jury returned a verdict in favor of Schmidt’s client.
Schmidt’s client was the patient of a Shakopee surgeon who performed a cholecystectomy (gall bladder) surgery. At the conclusion of the surgery, the surgeon attempted to install a central venous catheter. The jury determined that the surgeon did so negligently, causing damage to lead to stroke-like symptoms.
The trial lasted an entire week. The Defense presented expert witnesses to dispute Schmidt’s claim that the surgeon was negligent, including a member of the teaching faculty of the U of Minnesota Medical School.
The jury ultimately decided in favor of Schmidt’s client and returned a verdict of malpractice.
