MINNEAPOLIS INJURY ATTORNEYS ANNOUNCE RECORD NO FAULT INSURANCE RECOVERY FOR INJURY VICTIM FROM JURY.
In a jury jury trial in December of 2016, a Hennepin County jury found that American Family Insurance had wrongfully denied No Fault benefits to the victim of injuries in a car accident. The jury award was $59,337.79. Schmidt Salita injury lawyer Douglas Schmidt represented the victim at trial.
After the trial, Hennepin County Judge Laurie J. Miller issued an order adding interest penalties in the amount of $8,379.48 and court costs of $24,144.68 to the verdict. The total judgment added up to$91,861.95. This total is believed to be a record for interest penalties and court costs.
Douglas Schmidt has successfully handled thousands of No Fault claims for the victims of personal injury in car accidents over the 42 years that the Minnesota No Fault Insurance Act has been in effect. He has served, by appointment of the Minnesota Supreme Court, on the Steering Committee that established the system of arbitration to resolve disputed between injury victims and No Fault insurance companies for 12 years. He also served, by appointment of the Minnesota Supreme Court, as an Arbitrator for over 20 years. He has successfully represented personal injury victims at No Fault arbitrations in well over 1,000 cases.
Schmidt is recognized as an expert in No Fault claims, having been asked to lecture at seminars sponsored by the Minnesota Trial Lawyers Association and the Minnesota Association of Justice.
Schmidt comments, “The Minnesota No Fault Insurance Law was intended to provide prompt payment for the treatment of personal injuries suffered in a car accident. The insurance industry has largely failed to honor that purpose. They have turned the payment of medical bills for injury victims into a battlefield in which they viciously defend and deny these claims. It takes a strong lawyer who knows to law to bring justice to injury victims.”
