$600,000 Settlement with Ford Motor for Pickup Truck Fire Death
Collisions involving semi-trucks, straight trucks, construction trucks and trailers, and pickup trucks have all been the subject of successful claims handled by the Schmidt Law Firm.

The case involved the roll-over of a Ford pickup truck whch was loaded with a camper. In heavy winds, the pickup tipped over onto its side and slid along the asphault surface of the roadway. The truck was built with a gas cap filler that protruded from the side of the truck. As it slid along the surface of the roadway, the gas cap came off and the contents of the gas tank spilled onto the roadway. The gas was ignited by the sparks of the metal scraping on the road surface. The passengers died in the fire.
Schmidt enlisted the services of one of the country’s top automotive engineers. They conducted tests which proved that the gas cap would come off 8 out of 10 times that the pickup tipped over onto its side.
This case not only brought justice for the family and resulted in Ford changing its design so that gas filler caps no longer protrude, but instead are recessed with a protective door.
